What is LabXchange?
LabXchange is a free, open online platform for global science education that integrates the best of digital instruction and interactivity, while connecting students and teachers in an online learning community.
Who is LabXchange for?
LabXchange is for anyone! We welcome learners and educators of all kinds to join our learning community. You don’t need to register to browse our library of digital learning content, which focuses on the life sciences and associated fields, like global health, health science, and preparing for college and careers. However, we encourage you to create a registered account to access additional features, such as classes, and to have a more customized experience. (You do need to be over the age of 13 to register on LabXchange.)
How much does LabXchange cost?
There is no cost to use LabXchange. It is a free resource!
Is LabXchange a Learning Management System (LMS)?
LabXchange is not an LMS, but we do offer some of the features of an LMS. These include the ability to form private learning communities, which we call Classes, where you can build and share content privately, and directly message individual learners. In your classes, you will be able to oversee group and individual learner progress and intervene with individual learners.
Why should educators use LabXchange?
LabXchange offers educators the ability to remix high quality digital content into customized learning experiences that support a diverse classroom. By providing the tools to support community-building and hybrid and differentiated learning, LabXchange allows educators to engage groups of learners in design, iteration, and problem-solving, while supporting individual exploration and challenge. LabXchange can also help educators build their own science content knowledge by exploring advanced topics in greater depth.
Why should learners use LabXchange?
Our mission is to help learners of all kinds experience scientific discovery in an authentic, engaging way. On LabXchange, learners have access to a library of world class digital content and to a global learning community. They can explore topics from a variety of perspectives, uncover new interests, and strengthen their academic and career goals.
Can I earn a certificate or diploma for using LabXchange?
You cannot earn a certificate or diploma on LabXchange. However, your LabXchange account is also an edX account. (For more information on what this means, please see Registration, Login, and Accounts.) On edX, you can pursue verified certificates and other credentials, such as the MicroMasters Programs.
Can I use LabXchange to learn and teach about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
LabXchange is committed to supporting the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which outline humanity’s most urgent problems. As an open-source online learning network, LabXchange is a direct contribution to SDG #4 – Quality Education, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. LabXchange’s focus on life science learning materials cuts across many of the other SDGs. And our platform will facilitate global collaboration on the SDGs by providing ways to connect with people who share interests, and to build creative solutions together.
