What is an asset?
An asset is a piece of digital learning material or content. On LabXchange, assets include videos, images, case studies and interactives, among other content types.
What kinds of information are included with an asset?
Content on LabXchange is tagged with a suggested amount of background knowledge that will best allow the learner to engage with the material: none, some, or extensive.
Learning objectives are the skills or concepts that a learner feels confident applying after completing a pathway.
What types of assets will I find on LabXchange?
Assessments help learners and educators evaluate prior knowledge or learning outcomes. These questions can come in a variety of formats, including multiple choice, drop-down, fill-in-the-blank and several others. A group of assessments is called an assignment (or problem bank.)
Assignments, also known as problem banks, are groups of assessment questions that help test understanding and retention of learning content.
A case study presents scientific research, formatted similarly to primary literature. Stay tuned - this content type is not available yet, but is coming soon!
Clusters are collections of pathways grouped by theme. They are designed to help learners explore topics from a variety of perspectives.
Sometimes, a PDF document that combines text and images is the best way to communicate a topic.
Images are visual aids that can demonstrate a principle or support a text. They will always include a citation.
Interactive (also called Scrollable)
This is an image, or series of images, and text that are advanced by scrolling with your mouse or track pad. The interactive scrollable creates a cohesive narrative about a process or technique.
LabXchange allows users to combine and remix assets into short, contextualized learning experiences that we call pathways.
LabXchange helps introduce learners to scientists from a variety of backgrounds and in a wide range of scientific careers. Narratives are unique stories about a researcher’s personal journey to and through scientific fields.
LabXchange features an assortment of virtual simulations. These virtual experiences help learners practice engaging with lab equipment, techniques, and practices.
Text is a useful way of presenting, explaining, and exploring a concept in depth.
On LabXchange, you'll find a wide variety of videos. They may explain a concept, illustrate a lab technique, or feature an expert on a particular topic.
