How can I see my learners’ progress on content I’ve assigned through my class?
Scores for the learners enrolled in your class are visible in the Progress tab of your class.
Here you can see all of the content that has been posted in your class as well as the progress or score for individual learners on each one. You can also see your class score and class progress. You can sort the progress table alphabetically by learners name, or by overall progress or score.
How are the different scores calculated?
The progress tab provides information on a learner’s engagement with individual pieces of content assigned in the class, as well as the average score and progress through the material for the entire class, as described in the table below. Scores are automatically generated when learners open content or submit answers.
Type of score |
What you see |
What it means |
Total Score |
Not Started |
Learner has not yet opened or looked at the content. |
% Complete |
Learner has completed some parts of the content (for example, some of the assets in a pathway) but has not completed all parts. |
|
Complete |
Learner has engaged with the content. A % score is given only if the asset type is a pathway. For compound assets that have multiple parts, such as simulations and case studies, completion indicates engagement with the asset. The outcome of the simulation and responses to reflection questions are visible only to the learner. For this reason, you may wish to supplement the simulations with additional assessments to gauge learner understanding. |
|
% Correct |
The score on an individual question or the percentage of questions within a question set that were answered correctly. If a learner repeats a question or question set multiple times, only the most recent score will be recorded. |
|
Class Score |
% |
An average of all the question and question set scores for all learners in the class. |
Class Progress |
% |
The percentage of the content assigned to the class that has been completed by all learners. |
You may see combinations of these scores for an individual question set. For example, if a learner is working on a pathway that contains a question set but has not yet finished the pathway, you may see a % complete and a % correct score in the total score column.
Can I see students’ answers?
This functionality is not currently supported. However, you can always request that your students document their progress with a screenshot of their work or discuss their answers on the class discussion board.
Can I view students' progress individually and message them from the Learners tab?
Yes, you can see individual learners’ progress and scores, and send them a direct message if necessary.
Can I reset a single student's progress on an activity?
Yes, simply open that student's individual Progress report from the Learner's page of your Class and click on the menu icon to the right of the activity you want to reset. You will find the Mark as incomplete button there.
Does LabXchange integrate with my regular gradebook?
Although we do not currently support direct integration with other learning management systems, you can easily download a copy of the information in the progress tab using the Download Report button at the bottom right of the screen.
Can I adjust scores or grade weighting?
Because the scores are automatically generated based on how the learner engages with the assigned content and can change if a learner has multiple attempts, it is not possible to adjust scores. The progress feature does not currently support weighting grades or assignment categories. However, you can easily download a copy of the scores in the progress tab to adjust and integrate into another gradebook or learner management system.
Can I set a due date for completing assigned content?
You can control whether learners can work on the content you’ve assigned by choosing whether it is in the visible or planning area of the class. Content in the unposted section of the class is not visible to learners, so their progress cannot be recorded. If you want to limit the amount of time that students can work on an assignment, you can communicate the due date, for example through the class discussion board, and remove the content from the public part of the class when the due date is reached.
Note that the progress page will list the date on which learners have completed posted content, but if the learners repeat or revisit the content this date will be overwritten. This could result in a learner appearing to have completed content after the due date because they have reviewed it later. In order to avoid confusion, we would recommend downloading a progress report on the due date which can be kept as a record.
Will a learner’s score be impacted if their internet connection is interrupted?
If a learner is logged in to their account while completing work for your class, their progress will automatically be saved with one exception. Progress on simulations is saved as long as the browser window remains open. However, closing the browser window will erase all progress through the simulation. If a learner’s internet connection is interrupted but the learner does not close the tab in which the simulation is running, the learner can resume their work once their connection is restored.
What if a learner’s score is incorrect?
If you feel there has been an error in generating a score, please contact us to submit a description of the issue along with a screenshot.
